The American Association lasted only a decade, it rewrote the playbook on baseball, establishing many of the conventions we still honor. In 1882, the owners of six teams in the National league controlled baseball. It was a gentleman's game until the American Association ushered in price cutting, playing on Sundays, selling liquor in the ballparks, and fielding exceptional.
