When the actions of a rebel gladiator in Egypt threaten the stability of the Roman Empire, Acting Prefect Cato and Centurion Macro know he must be stopped. Ajax and his crew have been attacking naval bases, merchant vessels and villages along the Egyptian coast, stirring up anti-Roman sentiment by posing as Romans. With the southern frontier under raid by the Nubians, Egypt has become dangerously volatile. Tasked by Egypt's governor with defeating the renegade before the situation worsens, Cato and Macro are soon hot on Ajax's trail.
