Feedlots are premises with a high concentration of livestock and a high movement of livestock both entering and exiting the premises. The result of these factors leads to the opportunity for rapid spread of a disease outbreak within, into or out of the feedlot at a more accelerated rate than other livestock operations.
Description
A foreign animal disease (FAD) outbreak affecting cattle could have potentially catastrophic effects on livestock population. Such an incident in Colorado would be devastating to the State's beef production. Limiting the scope of an outbreak is dependent on the early detection and rapid response to eradicate the disease.

The introduction of a highly contagious disease or a swine incident resulting from some type of all-hazards event in swine could have devastating effects on Colorado's swine industry. This document provides a framework to ensure a rapid and coordinated response to an outbreak of a highly contagious disease in swine within the State of Colorado.

This Colorado Poultry Emergency Disease Plan will be applicable to any poultry disease that causes significant morbidity or mortality in commercial or back yard poultry. At this time the diseases of concern would be Avian Influenza, Exotic Newcastle Disease or any other new, emerging or reportable disease that causes significant economic losses to the poultry industries of Colorado.
